Anyone coming to Mutriku should visit the
old quarter of the village. Through its narrow streets the visitor
will have the opportunity to discover beautiful towers and mansions.Once
you have arrived in Mutriku you could start the tour of the village
in Churruca square. At its centre stands a statue of the hero of
Trafalgar Cosme Damián Churruca. Surrounding the square there
are the Church of Our Lady of the Assumption, the Town Hall and
the Galdona Mansion. Following the "Konde kale" street
you will find the mansion known as the House of Churruca which was
built for the General Gaztañeta in 1731.
In front, on the other side of the road,
there is a building with a coat of arms and a mansonry-work façade.
Following the street, on the right side, you will see the Zabiel
Mansion house, a fine example of the 18th century building which
is a library nowadays. At the end of the "Konde kalea"
street there is a building of the 18th century with the coat of
arms of the Churruca family, which is where Cosme Damián
Churruca was born. On the right of this building you will find the
"San Gil"street, which was saved from the fire of the
year 1553 and where there are premises where fishing tools were
kept.
From here you will reach "Atxukale",
the balcony of the village from where you will have a very nice
view of the harbour. If you go down the steps you will find a building
of the 18th century called "Loja Zaharra". This building
stands out because of its round arches on the ground floor. If you
go through the arches and you turn right you will see the "Tranpa
Kale" street on a slope. On the right side there is the Berriatua
Tower known as "Sulengua" which means previous to the
fire because it was one of the few buildings saved from the fire
of the year 1553. Further in the slope you will discover the Montalivet
Mansion built in the 18th century. Following the street until the
end, at the beginning of the "Barrenkale" street you will

a mansonry-work façade. Going down the "Barrenkale"
Street, on the right side there is a house called Luardo with twin
windows and round arches. If you follow the "Frontoi kalea"
street you will reach the "Churruca plaza" square again.
